Townsville Wholesale Batteries is a locally owned business run by a small team of two to three people out of Garbutt. The owner grew up in Townsville and has spent years learning what works - and what doesn't - in North Queensland's heat, on its corrugated roads, and on its coastline. We opened about five years ago because we thought Townsville deserved a battery specialist that actually gave a damn.
Why we started
The battery industry in Australia has a habit of selling people whatever is on the shelf rather than what actually suits their vehicle and how they use it. We saw customers getting wrong fitments, being told to replace batteries that just needed a proper charge, and buying cheap product that failed in NQ's summer heat within 18 months.
We started TWB to do it differently. Test first. Recommend honestly. Fit correctly. If your battery doesn't need replacing, we'll tell you. If it does, we'll tell you exactly which one and why - and we'll fit it properly.
We camp, tour and explore NQ ourselves. When we recommend a dual battery system or a lithium setup, it's because we've run the same gear in the same conditions - not because it has the best margin.
How we work - and what we do
We test batteries and alternators for free because we think you should know what you're actually dealing with before spending money. We run a mobile service across Townsville because not everyone can get to us - flat batteries don't wait for business hours. We install dual battery systems, solar setups and Victron charging systems because we use them ourselves and know how to do it properly. And we recycle your old battery because it is the right thing to do.
Walk in and we test your battery and alternator on the spot - no booking, no charge, no obligation. We tell you what we find. If it needs replacing we'll tell you which battery suits your vehicle and why, fit it on the spot and take the old one away. If it doesn't need replacing we'll tell you that too.
For customers who can't get to us - flat battery at home, work or on the road - our mobile team comes to you, tests everything, fits the right battery and goes. Callout fees vary by time and location and we quote before we move.

We don't stock everything. We stock what we actually believe in after years of seeing what holds up in NQ. Every brand we carry has earned its place on our shelves.
